Crowns and bridges are fixed dental restorations used to restore the function and appearance of damaged or missing teeth. A crown, often referred to as a “cap,” is used to entirely cover or encase a damaged tooth or a dental implant, strengthening it and improving its shape, alignment, and appearance. Crowns are commonly made from porcelain, ceramic, metal alloys, or a combination of materials, offering both durability and a natural look. On the other hand, a bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring artificial teeth (pontics) to the natural teeth or implants on either side of the gap, known as abutments. Bridges help restore proper bite, maintain the shape of the face, and prevent remaining teeth from shifting out of position. Both crowns and bridges are cemented onto existing teeth or implants and are considered permanent solutions that improve oral health, functionality, and aesthetics when maintained with proper dental hygiene.
