Implants and prostheses are critical components in modern medical and dental treatments, designed to restore function, structure, and aesthetics in individuals with missing or damaged body parts. An implant is typically a surgically placed device—often made of titanium or biocompatible materials—embedded into the body, such as dental implants placed into the jawbone to support crowns, bridges, or dentures, or orthopedic implants used to replace or support joints and bones. A prosthesis, on the other hand, refers to an artificial replacement for a missing limb, tooth, organ, or other body part, which can be removable or permanently affixed depending on the need. Together, implants and prostheses work synergistically: the implant serves as a stable anchor, while the prosthesis restores the visible and functional aspect. Advancements in 3D imaging, CAD/CAM technology, and materials science have significantly improved their precision, durability, and patient outcomes, making them indispensable tools in restorative medicine and dentistry.
